Sorry about the misspell but it should be no 'e' at the end. I am wondering if it is Scottish or Irish because my great-grandfather said that he recalled his father saying he had 'come over' from Ireland. They did not have a very good relationship and unfortunately none of us know much about him and where he came from (my great, great grandfather that is). Thanks again for any help.

Hi,
I had been in the same situation. I think these parents assumed we knew everything. Maybe we acted like it. Remember spelling could be far from what we expected as some relatives may not have known how to write or may have not spelled their name to others. Get a book on genealogy, how to research. Research records you could get your hands on, birth, death, divorce, church records, Polk-phone like directories, county histories, and info from newspapers. Research maps to locate nearby churches, boundaries and names of counties, etc. Document which page, where the research was done and date in case there are descrepencies on info. Some info is more accurate than others. And info not the orginal source could have errors on it. Don't ignore other people names as their family could help in your research or they could be a relative. Also some people changed their last name like from O'Dea to Day because of the discrimination received at that time. Mac
