Irish/Scottish

Hey..
My name is Robyn Lesley Smith, I know Robyn with a 'Y' is gaelic, and Lesley is scottish.. obviously Smith is fairly generic..
My mother's maiden name is Rodgers (North Irish), my grandmothers were Gillie (Scottish) and Higgins (Irish).. am I correct in this? How would I find my family clan?

Depends on whether you are descended from Irish Smiths or English Smiths. The English version is an occupational and not a clan name while the Irish version is a translation of MacGabhann. Higgins is derived from one of the Irish words for a Norseman by the way.

I'm looking for the origin of the name Beasley. My Dad was born in Ballinhassig, County Cork, Ireland. He didn't know if the name was original to Ireland or was from English landowners. Thanks

Beasley is a Lancashire name that has been in Ireland since the 1600s. It has been Gaelicised Béaslaoi.

>>>>>>>>>Origin of the Name and Early Beasleys
There are several theo ries on the origin of Beasley. It may have been derived from an English place name meaning the clearing of an original settler named Bisi or some similar name. Others say it was perhaps derived from a place in Lancashire, meaning a "meadow or wood where bees were found".

A George Bisly, a catholic priest, was martyred in the reformation in the 16th century. His family wase said to come from a place called Goosnargh in Lancashire, England. There is an area thereabouts called beesley heights. A William de Beselegh who was possibly a norman who settled there after the Norman conquest in 1066.<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
