My grandmother was from Cork, in Ireland. She came over on a boat around the turn of the century. How can I find out more?

A lot of people think that their ansestors came from Cork because Cork was a poppular port to leave from. So when you check out the manifest of passenger it will say so and so from Cork, but it dosen't necesserally mean that the family came from Cork just that the left Ireland from Cork.
