can u give me some info on the name DURNION we think it may have been Durneen origanally as my granfathers name is differant to his brothers on birth papers thanks

Durnin and Durnian are English versions of Ó Duirnín (which is pronounced O Durneen). It's an Ulster name and there's a place called Ballydurnian in Antrim. Dorn is the Irish for fist so maybe your ancestors were boxers grinning smiley

Ó Duirnin also translates as the Surname Cuffe.
In the 16th Century it was found chiefly in Donegal and Fermanagh [ref: "Sloinnte Gaedhel Is Gall"]
