Priestley

we were trying to find a translation for the surname 'Priestley' - not to be confused with 'Priestly' (which might be something like Taggart/Sagairt/Mac an t-Sagairt etc).

This origin of this spelling is a bit different. It described the people who lived on the land of the priest "...of/from the priest's ley" ('ley' being the Saxon name for a clearing in the forest). Not sure if that just meant the priest's land or a historic holy place but it seems to originate from a single township of that name so it's place specific.

Any suggestions?
