Someone e-mailed me and said that an Irish teacher had said that Rebecca in Irish is Ríobhca (REEV uh ka), which would make sense, since the Hebrew form of Rebecca is Rivka. However, I've never seen this before. The version used in the Irish language bible is Ribeacá. This was never used for regular people in Ireland, just for the biblical figure, but there it is.

Most Irish names have different biblical Irish equivalents,just like my own name Jason,which appears as "Iasón" in the bible,while "Séasán" and "Iasan" are for regular everyday use.

The same applies to names like Mary,John,Joseph,David,Andrew,Mark,Michael and many other names.The general Irish versions of these names are Máire,Seán,Seosamh,Dáithí/Daibhéid,Aindriú,Marc and Mícheál; while the biblical versions are Muire,Eoin,Iósaf,Dáiví,Aindrias,Marcas and Míocáel.

both Ribeacá and Ríobhca are correct, and both are in general use. Choose which you like best,
